“In this artwork, I have depicted the events of June 4, 1984, when the Indian Army stormed the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar with nefarious intentions as part of Operation Blue Star. The sacred shrine, the holiest site for Sikhs, became a battlefield as the Guru’s Khalsa warriors (Kharku Singhs) could not bear to witness the desecration of their Guru’s holy house.

With unwavering faith and courage, the Guru’s Singhs raised the battle cry of ‘Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal!’ and valiantly fought back. They showered bullets on the invading forces, spreading them on the ground like crops flattened by heavy rain. These warriors stood firm to protect their religion, uphold their community’s faith, and safeguard their Guru’s sacred house from desecration.

The Battle of Amritsar was not just a physical conflict but a spiritual stand against oppression. The bravery and sacrifice of these warriors symbolize the undying spirit of Sikhism. While the attack is now part of history, the pain and scars it left behind remain fresh in the hearts of Sikhs worldwide.

This artwork is a tribute to those brave souls who gave their lives to defend their faith and values. It serves as a reminder to never forget 1984—a year that marked one of the darkest chapters in Sikh history.”
