This artwork is a tribute to Baba Deep Singh Ji, the first head of Damdami Taksal and one of the most revered martyrs in Sikh history. At the age of 75, Baba Deep Singh Ji fought valiantly in the Battle of Amritsar in 1757 to protect Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and its sacred Sarovar from desecration by Ahmad Shah Abdali’s forces. Known for his unparalleled bravery and devotion, Baba Deep Singh Ji made a solemn vow to Guru Ramdas Ji that his last breath would be at the holy site of Sri Harmandir Sahib. True to his word, he fulfilled this promise, attaining martyrdom at Darbar Sahib.
Baba Deep Singh Ji’s sacrifice is legendary. Despite being fatally wounded and decapitated during the battle, he continued fighting with his severed head in one hand and his Khanda (double-edged sword) in the other, clearing his path to Sri Harmandir Sahib. His unwavering faith and extraordinary courage inspire Sikhs worldwide to uphold righteousness and defend their values.
This artwork seeks to honor Baba Deep Singh Ji’s legacy as a saint-soldier who exemplified the Khalsa spirit. It serves as a reminder of his dedication to protecting Sikh principles and sacred places, encouraging us to live with dignity, courage, and devotion.
